The Welland Canal locks allow large ships over 200 yards in length that may weigh approximately 30,000 tons to travel between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie in spite of the 326.5 ft. difference in elevation. The Welland Canal locks lift and lower these ships with the help of gravity and large quantities of water. The force of gravity is used to fill or drain a lock moving about 20 million gallons of water in about 11 minutes. It is this movement of water that actually lifts or lowers a ship in a lock. The force of gravity is so strong that it draws this water a distance of 27 miles from lake Erie to Lake Ontario filling and draining the 8 locks in between. (wellandcanal.com)
It is only matter of time to make dramatical changes in everything.
Morningstar Mill is a 2.98-acre heritage site located in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. The site includes the Morningstar Mill, a sawmill, the home of the Morningstar family, a barn used for blacksmith demonstrations, and the Decew Falls gorge along the Niagara Escarpment. (Wikipedia).
There are a lot of beautiful hidden places in Niagara region where the environment is very quiet and calm. One of them is Morning Star Mill. It is located on the small creek. On the top there is a nice pond with mirror surface and pleasant landscape around. In the lazy summer afternoon when sun is high and hot the deep forest shade and cool water breeze are good things for refreshment.
But right after Mill the water falls down and from the top it is impossible to see where it goes. To see this waterfall from the bottom takes one hour walking down to the river. The trail is pretty rough and steep. Not many people take this journey to the Twelve Mile Creek to enjoy the waterfall in full its beauty.
Some nature sculptures in the forest on the Twelve Mile Creek banks.
